INSTALLATION SERVICES

Simple as it might seem, placing artwork--whether it be on a pedestal or on a wall--requires attention to a number of details. The shape and height of a pedestal is of primary importance to the optimal presentation of dimensional work. The angle of a pedestal even if it amounts to only a few degrees can profoundly affect the impact of a sculpture.
By the same token the height at which a framed piece is installed may vary by only an inch or two, but the effectiveness of the artwork is completely changed if, in relationship to its surrounding, the work is installed too high or too low.

Determining these factors is the skill our installers bring to a project.

Installation

As a basic principle, our installers always hang framed work on two hooks because it minimizes the shifting that naturally occurs from dusting, vibrations, accidental contact, etc. Our custom brass hooks (used with tempered steel nails) come in several weight tolerances so that each piece to be installed is hanging on exactly the right hooks for its weight and size.

For different kinds of walls and specialized circumstances, installers have several methods from which to draw. The hooks we use can be adapted for installation in the grouting on brick walls. For significantly heavier pieces such as mirrors and wall-hanging sculptures, our installers work with the frameshop to create French cleats and Z-bar systems that can address the most challenging circumstances.

Security installation is another important technique. The system we use invisibly secures the artwork with metal components at the top, and a T-screw at the bottom that is turned into place with a special wrench. Our clients who use the system have never lost a piece of artwork, albeit the system has been challenged--but without damage to the artwork itself. Sometimes a client will opt for security installation just to keep their framed pieces level on the wall.
